Notes from the President

As you all know we have industry moving in all around the gun range. This has made necessary some changes in the manner which the range is managed. These changes have been published and made available to all members. Because some members still refuse to pay attention to the regulations we are now governed by, it is necessary to take a hard stand on violations,

Safety violations can and will be cause for suspension of membership privileges.

Safety violations can and do include, shooting at unauthorized targets such as rocks, cans, glass of any kind, or any other non target frame type target.

In this news letter there is an amendment to the by laws that explains the possible repercussions for violations of our safety rules.

We have many projects in the works for the upcoming year. The way to know what is happening in the club is to attend club meetings. Because of the above mentioned industry etc.. There are things happening that you might not know, and that could effect you in an adverse manner.

In the event you do not understand all these rules and by laws of the club you can contact any member of the board or officer of the club and a copy of the rules and by laws will be made available to you.

There is a work day scheduled for March 17. With the summer coming there is a lot of work to be done before the range becomes busy.

Donated Rifle

Joe Miller, a former member, has donated a new rifle with mounted scope to the club for the purposes of providing funds for young shooters.

Winchester Model 70, 25 WSSM caliber, black composite stock, NcSTAR 6x42 scope, set of loading dies and two boxes of ammo.  Test fired by manufacturer.

The rifle will be at the regular monthly meetings for inspection until the ownership is transfered.

The club is providing to MEMBERS ONLY a method to acquire this rifle by purchasing  an ”Opportunity” for $20.00 each.   These “opportunities” will require name, membership number and funds to acquire as many opportunities the member chooses.  The club will deposit the funds and maintain a record of the “opportunities” until a random selection of one of “opportunities” is made.  In the event there is not sufficient number of members interested in acquiring these opportunities, the club will at the member’s choosing either provide a refund or donate funds to the Junior club account.

This acquisition method may appear to be a “raffle” on the surface, but OMGC cannot hold a “public raffle” without purchasing a permit from the State of Colorado.  An annual permit is $100.00 and a portion of the gross receipts/proceeds go the Colorado Secretary of State.  This is why this acquisition method must be limited to MEMBERS ONLY.

The rifle will be transferred by one of the OMGC members with an FFL.

By Law Changes

A review of the insurance liability coverage by OMGC has fostered an addition to OMGC By Laws, Article Twelve section.   The following addition needs to reviewed by membership, with plans to vote on the issue on July 17, 2012 meeting.

 Addition to Article Twelve:

Any officer or director of the OMGC can suspend membership and all privileges granted as defined in Article Three of The Bylaws of  Orchard Mesa Gun Club.  The suspension shall be based on  failure to adhere to  posted safety rules and regulations and/or committing actions that endanger other individuals and/or property.  Members suspended while on the range, will be asked to leave the range and not return to the range for any reason, until the suspension is reviewed .

In the event the suspended member refuses to leave the range, the officer or director shall call the appropriate law enforcement agency  and have the member removed from the range for trespass.

All officers and board of directors shall be immediately notified  of the suspension and  the secretary shall send a  letter , within three days,  to the member confirming the suspension, revoked range access and the review process as defined in Article Eight of Bylaws.    Final determination of membership, shooting privileges, range access and membership fees shall be documented in the minutes, as part of the review process.

An additional change is to move the timeline of the Audit Committee selection from October meeting to the November meeting.  The Audit Report from the December meeting to the January meeting.

                                    NOTICE!!  READ!!!  REMEMBER!!!

                                                            To all members

Starting September 03, 2010 this notice will be attached to all new or renewal membership cards when issued.  All ranges have berms in place so that bullets shot at the designed range distance will impact the face of the berm.  You are not allowed to place a target at a closer distance which may allow the bullet to ricochet off the ground and miss the berm.  Remember we cannot allow a bullet to leave the boundary of the range regardless of caliber, “22” or “50” or any. This rule has been in effect for quite some time.  However, some of you choose to ignore it.  It will not be permitted.  Any one doing this will possibly lose their privileges to use the range or lose membership.  The range belongs to you.  Protect it, enjoy it and help police it to train members who do not care.  Remember you are totally responsible for any guest you take to the range.

Board of Directors, Russ Weber, Tom Matthews, Lee Boren

E-mail of OMGC Newsletter

Due to the increasing cost of postage and the cost of publishing of a hard copy of the OMGC Newsletter, this will be the last mailed newsletter to all members.     Future newsletters will be e-mailed to all members that have provided their e-mail addresses.   The newsletter will be in PDF format that is readable and capable of being printed.  We realize that not all members have access to e-mail or have chosen not to provide their e-mail address to OMGC.   For those few that fit into this category we will continue to mail via USPS the newsletter.  It is hoped that the club can do several newsletters each year by using this new delivery method at a lower cost.

Please provide your e-mail address to Jeff Howard or Pat Weber.  We use this only within the club membership and DO NOT provide addresses to any other organization or business.
