Our Club has been in continuous existence since at least 1949. During that period of over 50 years we have faced many challenges and have emerged stronger than ever. We now face a new challenge to the future of the Orchard Mesa Gun Club. To put it simply the leadership of the Club has reached a very advanced age. The leadership of our Club is vested in a seven member Board of Directors composed of the four officers of the Club and three additional members all having demonstrated service to the Club in the past. The four offices in the Club are President, President Elect, Treasurer, and Secretary. The youngest of all these Board members is myself, and I will be 64 next January.
We must begin to identify prospective future officers so they may become familiar with the responsibilities of each office and provide a smooth transition of new people into these positions. To serve as an officer is both a privilege and a major responsibility. The time requirement is not overwhelming but it does require some effort on a regular basis. The President conducts the monthly members meeting, and represents the Club to the public. The President Elect conducts the members meeting in the absence of the President, and succeeds to the Presidency when the President steps down. The Treasurer handles all the Club’s financial affairs, depositing funds into the Club’s bank account paying the bills and reporting the Club’s financial position to the membership at the monthly meeting and to the board. The Secretary takes and maintains the records of the Club members and Board’s meetings, as well as sending out yearly renewal notices and maintaining the Club’s data base.
I would like to encourage any Club member belonging to the OMGC for at least three years and interested in helping take the Club into the future to contact an officer or board member and let us know of your interest. Those members yet to belong to the Club for three years please consider serving in the future
Respectfully,
Jeff Howard, Secretary
